Propolis
Propolis is the sticky, gooey substance bees make from tree resins. They use it to fill gaps & holes, and sometimes to smoothly coat the walls in the hive. It is the stuff that makes hive tools an absolute necessity in opening hives and separating boxes. Many believe that it's antimicrobial benefits also help keep bee colonies protected from diseases.
People have been using propolis for over 2,000 years to treat diabetes, cold sores, inflammation, mouth sores, herpes, healing wounds, colds, and more. Studies have suggested it has antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiprotozoal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

Pollen
It is fascinating watching bees return to the hive with full 'pollen baskets' on their hind legs. They collect pollen all season long and use it as a protein substance to feed brood.
Like propolis, many people use pollen for its health benefits. Pollen contains vitamins, minerals, trace elements, enzymes, amino acids and antioxidants. Some people ingest it to treat their seasonal allergies. Others believe it helps arthritis, asthma, eczema, high cholesterol, osteoporosis and to slow the aging process, promote weight loss and improve athletic performance.
