TREATMENT-FREE (NATURAL) BEEKEEPING
It sounds idyllic, keeping bees in the most natural way possible with no chemicals used in the hive or anywhere that your bees are foraging. For most of us this simply isn't practical or realistic. Give it an uninformed try and see just how fast your loose bees to Varroa, diseases, pesticides, and other issues.
BUT, that doesn't mean it's impossible! Successful treatment-free beekeeping is completely different from bee neglect. Those beeks who make it work have a plan, work their plan, and live with the 'natural' consequences. These people are becoming bee breeders and are patient enough to let non varroa-resistant colonies die off while boosting the lineage of more mite-resistant genetics. And just because they don't use chemicals doesn't mean they don't use other measures to fight Varroa as part of their 'natural integrated pest management system.'
Some of the experts and their practices are found in these books and podcasts.

Avoid learning the hard way by reading and studying proven natural beekeeping practices. Here are some recommendations:
OTHER MEDIA
Unfortunately and surprisingly, we have found only one podcast dedicated solely to treatment-free beekeeping and the offerings on YouTube are nearly as sparse. So start with a book or two, and visit the following:
Treatment-Free Beekeeping Podcast
Solomon brings a fresh perspective to a more natural way of keeping bees. "Without treatments, chemicals or pesticides" sounds foreign to many beekeepers, but shouldn't we all be headed more in that direction?
Les Crowder & Natalie B. at Bee Mindful Honey Farms are experienced experts on natural beekeeping. See their web site, videos or podcasts.
