It Was A Tough Winter For Bees In The West

Here in a high mountain valley in Utah we had the snowiest winter on record.

And it was cold. Normally we get a few warm days (50 - 60 degrees f) in January or February, but this year we didn't have a high in the 50's until April.

Add in all the factors: Varroa, neighbors spraying glyphosate on their fields, and no warm days for cleansing flights, added up to a very low winter survival rate this year.

How did you bees do and where do you live? Feedback welcome!

Snow at nearby ski resort.
