It's such a helpless feeling, not knowing how they are doing inside their hives.
You did everything you could to help them through winter. They have lots of honey stores. Their fall varroa count was low. You may have even insulated their hive. BUT, if you live in a cold climate your bees still may or may not be alive come spring.
Most winters here in the Rockies we get a few days of warm (50+) temps in January. That's time enough to take a quick peak and feed if necessary. They might even get in a cleansing flight or two.
This winter it hasn't been above 40º and the hives are getting a little lite. Is it worth getting a thermal camera just to ease the worry?
