Langstroth Beehives

After raising and observing bees for years, in 1851 Reverend Lorenzo Lorraine Langstroth invented a better beehive.  Since then the 'Langstroth' beehive has become the gold standard for raising bees in the U.S. and many other countries.

Top Bar Beehives

This design has been used for centuries and is a common design world-wide.  Instead of removable 4-sided frames (Landstroth), Top Bars simply have multiple pieces of wood (top bars) stretched across the top of the hive cavity.  Bees build their comb down from these bars.

AZ Beehives

The Slovenian AZ Hive may be the most beautiful and practical beehives in the world.  (I WANT ONE!)  In this hive design frames are accessed horizontally instead of vertically, and often from inside an enclosed building.
